Possible Causes
Wet or contaminated ignition switches, Moisture around electrodes from spills or cleaning, Stuck closed burner valve switch, Shorted ignition wire to ground
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF all burners. If sparking continues, disconnect power to the cooktop at the breaker.
- Dry the cooktop: Remove burner caps and allow the area around the electrodes and burner valves to dry completely. Use a fan; avoid heat guns.
- Clean around knobs: Remove control knobs and wipe away any liquid or cleaner residue around the valve stems where the ignition switches are located.
- Test switches: With power OFF, access the ignition switches on the valve stems. Check for obvious damage or corrosion. Replace any switch that appears burned or that tests closed even when the knob is in the OFF position.
- Inspect wiring: Ensure ignition wires are not pinched or rubbing against metal, which can cause arcing.
