Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Melted harness insulation near oven cavity, Moisture inside sensor connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Allow oven to cool before working near the cavity.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the oven temperature sensor from inside the cavity. Check the insulation on the sensor leads and harness where it passes through the rear wall for signs of melting or chafing.
- Measure resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure resistance at room temperature. A very low reading (near 0 Ω) indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor.
- Check for shorts to chassis: With the harness disconnected from the control, measure between each sensor wire and chassis ground. Any continuity indicates a shorted harness; reroute or replace the harness.
- Dry connectors: If the range was recently steam-cleaned or exposed to heavy moisture, dry the sensor connector and harness thoroughly before retesting.
