Possible Causes
Burner not igniting promptly, Blocked ignition port, Gas valve not closing fully, Loose gas connection at manifold or hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Immediately turn off all burner knobs and close the main gas supply. Ventilate the area and avoid sparks or open flames. If the smell is strong, leave the area and contact your gas supplier.
- Check ignition: Once safe, test ignition. If the burner fills with gas before lighting, clean the small ignition port near the electrode.
- Inspect connections: With gas off, check all visible connections with a leak detection solution when gas is turned back on. Bubbles indicate a leak.
- Do not tighten blindly: If a leak is suspected at a rigid connection, have a qualified gas technician repair it.
- Valve replacement: If a specific burner continues to leak or smell after shutoff, its gas valve may be defective and must be replaced.
