Possible Causes
Misaligned thermocouple tip, Dirty or weak flame not heating thermocouple, Faulty thermocouple, Defective gas safety valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Work in a well-ventilated area and close the gas supply before disassembling burner parts.
- Hold knob longer: After ignition, keep the knob pressed for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat fully.
- Clean burner: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean ports with a soft brush or pin to ensure a strong, even flame around the thermocouple tip.
- Check thermocouple position: The thermocouple tip should be directly in the flame. Gently adjust its position if bent away.
- Replace thermocouple: If the flame is strong and correctly positioned but still goes out, replace the thermocouple for that burner.
- Gas valve: If a new thermocouple does not solve the issue, the associated gas safety valve may be faulty and should be replaced.
