Possible Causes
Dirty or faulty flame sensor (combined with electrode), Poor grounding of burner, Faulty gas valve coil, Control board not detecting flame rectification
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before cleaning or adjusting components.
- Clean flame sensor: Gently clean the electrode/flame sensor rod with fine emery cloth to remove oxidation.
- Check ground: Ensure the burner assembly has a solid metal-to-metal connection to chassis ground; remove rust or grease at mounting points.
- Observe flame: When relit, the flame should fully envelop the sensor rod. If not, adjust burner alignment.
If the flame still drops out, a technician should test the gas valve and control board.
