Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor reading too low, Stuck or welded bake relay on control board, Poor oven cavity ventilation or blocked vents, Incorrect rack/foil placement causing heat buildup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool fully before inspection.
- Check for misuse/vent blockage: Ensure no aluminum foil is covering the oven floor or racks, and that rear and top vents are not blocked by trays or cookware. Remove any obstructions.
- Inspect door seal: Check the oven door gasket for gaps, tears, or areas where it does not seal. A leaking door can cause incorrect temperature readings and overheat the control area.
- Test the temperature sensor: With power off, access the sensor connector and measure resistance. If the reading is significantly lower than specification at room temperature, the sensor may be reading hot and should be replaced.
- Control board check: If the sensor is within spec and vents are clear, the bake relay on the electronic oven control may be sticking closed, allowing uncontrolled heating. This typically requires replacement of the control module.
- After repair: Perform a temperature check with an oven thermometer at 180°C/350°F to confirm stable operation.
