Possible Causes
Shorted burner valve microswitch, Moisture in knob area, Damaged switch harness, Faulty ignition module sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the cooktop. You may leave gas off as well while diagnosing.
- Drying: If the issue started after a spill, remove the burner knobs and allow the area to dry thoroughly. Do not use excessive heat.
- Inspect switches: Under each knob is a small ignition switch. Check for signs of corrosion or physical damage.
- Disconnect suspect switch: With power off, disconnect one switch at a time and restore power briefly to see if sparking stops. The switch that, when disconnected, stops the sparking is likely faulty.
- Replace switch: Replace the defective burner valve microswitch or the entire valve/switch harness as supplied by Fisher & Paykel.
- Ignition module: If all switches test good but F61 persists, the ignition module may be misreading switch status and require replacement.
