Cooktop element stuck on high and will not turn off unless power is cut

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker immediately. Do not use the appliance until repaired.

• Identify control type:
  • If your Frigidaire Professional range uses mechanical knobs, the infinite switch is likely at fault.
  • If it uses touch controls, an electronic relay board is likely.
• Inspect switch or board:
  • For knob-controlled elements, remove the back panel and test the infinite switch for continuity in OFF position; if closed, replace the surface element infinite switch.
  • For touch-controlled models, inspect the relay board for welded relays and replace the cooktop relay/control board.
• Check wiring:
  • Inspect wires to the element for shorts or melted insulation; repair as needed.
