Possible Causes
Shorted hot surface sensor, Faulty infinite switch internal contacts, Shorted indicator circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before accessing controls.
- Allow full cool-down:
- Ensure the cooktop is completely cool; some indicators remain on until the sensor cools.
- Test hot surface switch:
- On coil or some radiant elements, a separate hot surface switch is mounted on the element.
- Test for continuity; if stuck closed when cool, replace the hot surface indicator switch / element assembly.
- Check infinite switch:
- On some models, the indicator is driven by the infinite switch; replace the infinite switch if it keeps the indicator energized.
