Possible Causes
Weak or open bake igniter, Failed gas safety valve, Faulty oven thermostat/EOC, Broken igniter wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and power before servicing. If you smell gas, ventilate the area and do not ignite flames.
- Observe igniter:
- Restore power and start a bake cycle; look through the oven bottom panel for the igniter glow.
- If it does not glow, or glows but burner never lights, turn power OFF and continue.
- Test igniter:
- Remove the oven bottom panel and flame spreader to access the igniter.
- Disconnect igniter and measure resistance; an open igniter is defective.
- Even if not open, a weak igniter may not draw enough current to open the gas valve; replacement is recommended if burner does not light within 60 seconds.
- Check gas valve:
- If a new igniter glows but burner still does not light, the gas safety valve may be faulty and should be replaced.
