Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation openings, Failed cooling fan, Excessive ambient temperature in cabinet, Power module overheating due to internal fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Surfaces may be hot. Allow the unit to cool before handling. Disconnect power at the breaker before removing the cooktop.
- Allow cooling: Turn the cooktop off and let it cool for 20–30 minutes. Do not cover the cooktop.
- Check ventilation: Open cabinet doors below and ensure that air intake and exhaust slots are not blocked by panels, insulation, or stored items.
- Listen for fan: When the cooktop is on at medium-high power, you should hear the internal cooling fan. If no fan noise is heard, the cooling fan may have failed.
- Clean dust: A technician can remove the cooktop, open the housing, and gently vacuum dust from the fan and heat sinks (with power disconnected).
- Replace faulty fan or module: If the fan does not run when powered, replace the cooling fan assembly. If the fan runs but E5 persists, the power module may be overheating internally and should be replaced.
