Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Moisture intrusion in sensor connector

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before working on the range.

  • Test sensor resistance: Remove the oven temperature sensor as for F3. Measure resistance at room temperature; if it is significantly lower than ~1080 Ω or near 0 Ω, the sensor is shorted and must be replaced.
  • Inspect wiring for shorts: Follow the sensor wires through the rear wall and under the cooktop. Look for spots where insulation is melted or rubbed through and touching metal. Repair with high-temp wire and ceramic wire nuts as needed.
  • Dry connectors: If the error appeared after steam cleaning or a spill, disconnect the sensor harness and allow it to dry thoroughly. Clean any corrosion.
  • Replace sensor if in doubt: A new OEM GE Profile sensor is relatively inexpensive and often resolves F4.
