Possible Causes

Burned-out radiant element, Failed coil element, Defective surface infinite switch, Loose element receptacle or wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before accessing elements or controls.

  • Test other elements: If only one element fails, suspect that element or its switch. If all fail, suspect power supply or main control.
  • Coil element check: For coil tops, swap the non-working element with a known-good one of the same size. If the problem follows the element, replace it. If not, replace the receptacle or switch.
  • Smoothtop access: Lift or remove the glass top per GE instructions. Inspect the radiant element for breaks or burn spots.
  • Switch test: Use a multimeter to test continuity through the infinite switch when turned on. Replace if open.
  • Reconnect wiring: Tighten any loose spade connectors and replace burned wires.
