Possible Causes
Failed hot surface igniter, No gas supply or closed gas valve, Faulty gas safety valve, Broken igniter wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off gas supply and power before servicing. If you smell strong gas, ventilate and contact your gas supplier immediately.
- Check gas supply: Ensure the gas shutoff valve to the range is fully open.
- Observe igniter: With the oven set to bake, look through the broiler drawer or oven bottom for the igniter. It should glow bright orange. If it does not glow, test and replace the igniter.
- Igniter test: Disconnect power, remove the igniter, and measure resistance. A very high or open reading indicates failure. Replace with a GE-approved igniter.
- Gas valve: If the igniter glows but the burner never lights, the igniter may be too weak to open the gas valve or the valve is faulty. Replace the igniter first; if still no ignition, replace the oven safety valve.
