Possible Causes

Clogged burner head or ports, Incorrect orifice for gas type (LP vs natural), Low gas pressure, Misadjusted air shutter

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn burner OFF and allow it to cool. Shut off gas supply before removing burner parts.

  • Clean burner: Remove burner cap and head (if removable). Soak in warm soapy water, scrub ports with a soft brush, and dry thoroughly.
  • Check flame color: After cleaning, relight. A proper flame is mostly blue with small yellow tips. Persistent large yellow flames may indicate wrong orifices or low pressure.
  • Verify gas type: Confirm the range is converted correctly for LP or natural gas. Check that the correct GE conversion kit orifices are installed.
  • Air shutter: On some models, adjust the air shutter on the burner tube to improve flame color (qualified persons only).
  • Call gas professional: If pressure issues are suspected, have a licensed gas technician check supply pressure and regulator.
