Possible Causes
Defective spark generator (ignition module), Faulty burner control switch on knob shaft, Loose or disconnected ignition wiring, No mains power to ignition circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF. Disconnect the appliance from mains power and close the gas supply valve before removing any parts.
- Check mains supply: Verify that the range is plugged in and that the outlet has power. The gas burners need electricity for ignition.
- Test other burners: Try igniting all burners. If none click, suspect the spark generator or power supply. If some click, suspect individual switches or wiring.
- Inspect ignition switches: Remove the burner knobs and lift the top panel (on freestanding ranges) to access the small switches on each gas valve. Check for broken or loose switch bodies and wiring.
- Check spark generator: Locate the ignition module (usually at the rear or base). Inspect for burn marks or loose connectors. Reseat all wires.
- Replace faulty parts: If no burners click and power is present, replace the spark generator. If only one burner fails and its switch tests open with a multimeter when turned, replace that burner switch.
- Reassemble and test: Restore gas and power, then test ignition. If you smell gas without ignition, turn everything off and ventilate the area immediately.
