Possible Causes
Weak oven thermocouple, Flame not properly heating thermocouple tip, Faulty oven safety valve, Loose thermocouple connection at valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the oven OFF and allow it to cool. Close the gas supply before working on the gas train.
- Hold knob longer: When lighting, press and hold the oven knob for 10–15 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat. If the flame still goes out, continue troubleshooting.
- Check flame pattern: Ensure the flame is stable and directly heating the thermocouple tip. Clean the burner ports near the thermocouple.
- Inspect thermocouple: Verify that the thermocouple tip is correctly positioned in the flame. Gently adjust if needed.
- Check connection: Under the oven, locate where the thermocouple connects to the oven safety valve. Tighten the connection slightly.
- Replace parts: If the problem persists, replace the oven thermocouple. If a new thermocouple does not solve it, the oven safety valve is likely faulty and should be replaced by a licensed gas technician.
