Possible Causes
Spill or moisture in burner knob area, stuck or shorted ignition microswitch on gas tap, defective spark generator module, damaged wiring harness to igniters
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and unplug the cooktop or switch off power at the breaker.
- Dry the controls: If the issue started after a spill or cleaning, remove burner knobs and gently dry the area with a cloth. Allow several hours for internal moisture to evaporate.
- Inspect microswitches: Under each knob is a small ignition switch. Check for visible damage or corrosion. A switch stuck in the closed position will cause constant clicking.
- Test switches: With a multimeter, test each switch for continuity. It should only close when the knob is turned to ignition. Replace any switch that remains closed.
- Check ignition module: If all switches are good but clicking continues, the spark generator module may be faulty and should be replaced.
Note: Do not operate the cooktop with constant sparking; it can wear out electrodes and be a nuisance.
