Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify no voltage is present before touching any wiring or elements.
- Visual inspection of elements: Remove oven racks and inspect the visible bake (bottom) and grill/broil (top) elements for blisters, cracks, or burn-through spots. Any visible damage means the element should be replaced.
- Check element terminals: Pull the range out and remove the rear cover to access element terminals. Ensure they are not touching the metal chassis and that insulating boots are intact.
- Measure resistance: Disconnect each element and measure resistance with a multimeter. A dead short (near 0 Ω) or open circuit indicates a faulty element.
- Inspect wiring and relays: Look for burned wires or connectors at the control board and element terminals. If elements and wiring are good, the power relay on the control board may be stuck or shorted and the board will need replacement.
Warning: A shorted element can trip breakers and pose a shock risk. Do not re-energize the appliance until the fault is corrected.
