Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF and ensure there is no gas smell before working. Do not use open flames to check for leaks.
- Clean and align burner: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean all gas ports with a soft brush or wooden toothpick (never metal that can enlarge holes). Refit the burner head and cap, ensuring they sit flat and centered.
- Check spark: Turn the knob to ignition and observe if a strong, blue spark jumps from the electrode to the burner. If no spark, clean the electrode tip and surrounding area. If still no spark, the igniter or ignition module may be faulty.
- Hold knob longer: For burners with flame failure devices, press and hold the knob for 5–10 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat and keep the valve open.
- Inspect thermocouple: Ensure the thermocouple tip is directly in the flame. If it is bent away or heavily soiled, gently reposition and clean it.
- Replace faulty parts: If the flame always goes out when you release the knob, replace the thermocouple for that burner. If multiple burners have this issue, the safety valve or gas tap manifold may be defective.
Warning: Any gas smell, hissing, or suspected leak requires immediate shutdown of the gas supply and professional service.
