Possible Causes

Weak or misaligned oven thermocouple, dirty pilot or burner, faulty oven safety valve, poor grounding of thermocouple circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off gas supply if repeated ignition attempts fail. Ventilate the area.

  • Clean burner: Remove the oven base panel to access the burner. Clean the burner ports and the area around the thermocouple tip.
  • Check thermocouple position: Ensure the thermocouple tip is directly in the main flame. Gently bend it closer if necessary.
  • Hold knob longer: Press and hold the oven control knob for 10–15 seconds after ignition to fully heat the thermocouple.
  • Replace thermocouple: If the flame still goes out when you release the knob, replace the oven thermocouple. If the problem persists, the safety valve may also need replacement by a gas technician.
