Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation, Failed cooling fan, Dried thermal paste between IGBTs and heat sink, Power module internal fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and wait for the cooktop to cool completely.
- Check ventilation: Ensure there is adequate airflow under the cooktop. Remove any stored items that may block vents. Confirm that cabinet cut-outs match Gram installation instructions.
- Inspect and clean fan: Access the underside, locate the cooling fan, and clean dust from blades and vents. Spin the fan by hand to check for stiffness.
- Test fan operation: Briefly power the unit and start a low setting to see if the fan runs. If not, replace the fan assembly.
- Check heat sink contact: With power off, inspect the power module heat sink mounting. If the module has been replaced before, poor thermal paste application can cause overheating. Reapply high-quality thermal compound if necessary.
- Replace power module: If E5 persists despite good cooling, the power module temperature sensing circuit may be defective and the module should be replaced.
Warning: Do not operate the cooktop with covers removed. Risk of electric shock and burns.
