Possible Causes

Dirty or wet burner cap, Misaligned burner cap, Clogged burner ports, Cracked or dirty ignition electrode

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the burner and allow all parts to cool. Close the gas supply if removing burners.

  • Clean burner parts: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean all gas ports with a soft brush and a wooden toothpick (do not enlarge holes). Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Dry moisture: If the cooktop was recently cleaned, moisture may be around the electrode. Dry the area with a cloth and allow air drying for at least 30 minutes.
  • Check cap alignment: Refit the burner head and cap, ensuring they sit flat and correctly aligned with the locating pins.
  • Inspect electrode: Check the ceramic insulator for cracks and the metal tip for heavy carbon buildup. Clean gently with a fine abrasive pad. If cracked or loose, replace the electrode for that burner.
  • Test ignition: Restore gas and test. If the flame is still hard to light, the gas pressure or valve may need adjustment by a qualified gas technician.

Warning: Do not use metal wires to clean jets; you can alter the flame pattern and create unsafe combustion.
