Possible Causes

Dirty or misaligned thermocouple tip, Weak thermocouple, Faulty safety valve magnet, Poor grounding of burner assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off gas and allow the burner to cool.

  • Clean thermocouple: Locate the small metal rod near the burner flame (thermocouple). Clean the tip with fine emery cloth to remove oxidation.
  • Check flame contact: Light the burner and observe whether the flame fully envelops the thermocouple tip. If not, adjust the burner cap position or clean ports to direct flame correctly.
  • Hold knob longer: On some models, you must hold the knob in the ignition position for 5–10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat sufficiently.
  • Replace thermocouple: If the flame still goes out when releasing the knob, replace the thermocouple for that burner with the correct Gram part.
  • Safety valve check: If a new thermocouple does not solve the issue, the associated gas safety valve may be defective and should be replaced by a gas technician.

Warning: Flame failure devices are critical safety components. Do not bypass or disable them.
