Possible Causes

Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Stuck bake relay on control board, Poor airflow around oven cavity, Incorrect oven calibration or wiring fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. If gas, also close the gas shutoff valve if you smell gas or see signs of overheating.

  • Allow oven to cool: Wait until the oven is completely cool before working on it.
  • Check temperature sensor: Locate the thin metal probe inside the oven (usually on rear wall). Inspect for damage or loose mounting. From the rear of the range, disconnect the sensor harness and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~20–25°C), it should read around 1080–1100 Ω. If open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
  • Control board relay check: If the oven continues heating with the control off, the bake or broil relay on the EOC may be welded closed. Inspect the board for burn marks. If found, replace the control board.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the oven vents are not blocked by foil or pans, which can cause overheating and F2 errors.

If the oven overheats severely or trips the breaker repeatedly, discontinue use and call a professional.
