Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF. If you smell gas, open windows, do not use electrical switches, and shut off the gas supply valve. Do not attempt repair until the smell has dissipated.
- Check burner cap alignment: Remove and reseat the burner caps so they sit flat and centered on the burner base.
- Clean burner ports: Use a soft brush or a wooden toothpick to clear debris from the small gas ports around the burner head. Do not use metal objects that can enlarge the holes.
- Inspect igniter: Ensure the ceramic igniter tip is clean, not cracked, and positioned close to the burner edge. Clean with a soft brush if greasy.
- Test spark: Turn a knob to LITE and observe if the igniter sparks. If no spark on any burner, suspect the spark module. If only one burner fails, suspect that burner’s igniter or switch.
- Replace parts: Replace a faulty surface burner igniter electrode for individual failure, or the spark module / ignition harness if all burners fail to spark.
After repair, check all gas connections for leaks using a soapy water solution; bubbles indicate a leak.
