E5 error on induction cooktop, cooktop shuts down or will not start
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off the circuit breaker and verify the cooktop is de-energized before opening the terminal cover.
- Check supply configuration: Confirm that the cooktop is wired according to the Hansa wiring diagram (single-phase or two-phase as specified). Incorrect bridging at the terminal block can cause E5.
- Tighten terminals: Remove the terminal block cover and inspect for loose screws, discoloration, or melted insulation. Tighten all terminal screws firmly.
- Measure voltage: With a multimeter (only if qualified), measure the voltage at the terminal block while the cooktop is on. It should remain within the range specified on the rating plate (e.g., 220–240 V). Large drops or spikes can trigger E5.
- Dedicated circuit: Ensure the cooktop is on a dedicated circuit of the correct amperage. Avoid using long extension cables or sharing with heavy loads.
- Power module replacement: If supply voltage is correct and connections are sound, the Hansa induction power module may be defective and require replacement.
Warning: Terminal block work and live voltage measurements should only be performed by a licensed electrician or trained technician.
