Possible Causes
Spilled food on elements or oven floor, Grease buildup on burner or cavity surfaces, Failing electrical component overheating, Melted plastic or insulation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you see flames or heavy smoke, turn off the appliance, keep the door closed, and ventilate the area. Do not use water on grease fires.
- Inspect interior: Once cool, check for heavy grease or food spills on the oven floor, racks, and elements. Clean with appropriate oven cleaner.
- Check cooktop: Clean burnt-on spills from around burners and under grates. Ensure no plastic items are near hot zones.
- Electrical smell: If the odor is chemical or like burning insulation, disconnect power and inspect wiring and control boards for discoloration or melting. Replace any damaged components.
- First-use burn-off: New ovens may smell for the first 1–2 uses; run an empty cycle at high temperature with good ventilation to burn off manufacturing residues.
