Possible Causes
Failed convection fan motor, Seized fan bearings, Open or shorted fan wiring harness, Faulty fan triac or relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power. Internal metal edges can be sharp; wear cut-resistant gloves.
- Check fan operation: With the oven cool, spin the convection fan blade by hand (through the rear of the cavity if accessible). It should rotate freely without grinding.
- Access fan motor: Remove the rear oven panel inside the cavity (usually held by Torx or Phillips screws) to expose the convection fan assembly. On some models, access is from the back of the appliance.
- Inspect wiring: Check the fan motor connectors and wiring harness for heat damage or loose terminals. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Test motor: With the motor disconnected and the appliance still isolated, measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. Compare to service specs if available.
- Bench test (qualified persons only): If you are competent and local regulations allow, you can briefly power the motor with an appropriate mains supply using insulated leads to confirm operation. Otherwise, skip this step.
- Replace fan motor: If the motor is seized or open, remove the fan blade retaining nut, pull off the blade, unbolt the motor, and install the correct Hotpoint-Ariston convection/cooling fan motor. Refit the blade and ensure it does not rub on the shroud.
- Control board check: If the motor and wiring are good but F03 persists, the fan drive circuit on the control board may be faulty and the board may need replacement.
