Possible Causes

Defective door lock motor or solenoid, Faulty door lock position switch, Misaligned door latch, Broken wiring between lock assembly and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working on the door lock mechanism.

  • Check door closure: Ensure the oven door closes fully and the latch engages. Look for bent hinges or obstructions around the latch.
  • Listen for lock motor: When starting a pyrolytic/self-clean or a program that requires locking (on models equipped), you should hear the lock motor. If there is no sound and F04 appears, suspect the lock assembly or wiring.
  • Access lock assembly: Remove the top panel or front control panel (depending on model) to access the door lock mechanism located at the top front of the oven cavity.
  • Inspect wiring and switch: Check the micro-switch on the lock assembly and its wiring harness. Look for broken spade terminals or burnt connectors. Test the switch continuity while manually moving the lock arm.
  • Realign latch: If the latch hook on the door is misaligned, loosen its mounting screws slightly, adjust so it enters the lock opening centrally, and retighten.
  • Replace lock assembly: If the motor does not run or the switch does not change state, replace the complete Hotpoint-Ariston door lock assembly. Transfer any brackets as needed and reconnect wiring exactly as original.
