Possible Causes

Manual reset safety thermostat tripped, Failed non-resettable thermal fuse, Blocked cooling vents causing overheating, Loose connection on safety thermostat terminals

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Isolate the appliance from mains power and allow it to cool completely.

  • Locate safety thermostat: On Hotpoint-Ariston ovens, the overheat thermostat is usually mounted on the top of the oven cavity or rear panel, often with a red reset button in the center.
  • Reset (if applicable): Press the small button in the center of the thermostat until you feel a click. Restore power and test the oven. If F05 clears and the oven heats, monitor for recurrence.
  • Check airflow: Ensure that ventilation slots around the oven are not blocked by cabinetry or foil. Clean any dust from cooling fan inlets and outlets.
  • Test continuity: If there is no reset button or the thermostat will not reset, disconnect its wires and test for continuity with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a blown thermostat or thermal fuse.
  • Replace thermostat/fuse: Fit the correct Hotpoint-Ariston overheat thermostat or thermal fuse, transferring any mounting brackets. Investigate causes of overheating (failed cooling fan, blocked vents) before returning the appliance to service.
