Possible Causes

Faulty oven igniter (spark electrode), Defective ignition module, No gas supply or closed gas valve, Blocked burner ports around the igniter

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off gas supply at the shutoff valve and disconnect electrical power before servicing. Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid open flames.

  • Check gas supply: Ensure the gas cock to the appliance is open and that other gas appliances in the home are working.
  • Inspect igniter: Remove the oven base panel to access the burner and igniter. Look for cracks in the ceramic insulator or heavy carbon buildup on the electrode tip.
  • Clean burner and ports: Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean burner holes, especially near the igniter. Blocked ports can prevent flame from reaching the sensor area.
  • Check spark: Restore power (gas still off) and start an oven program. Observe through the inspection hole: you should see a strong, regular spark at the igniter. If there is no spark, suspect the igniter or ignition module.
  • Replace igniter: Disconnect the igniter wiring, remove its mounting screw(s), and install the correct Hotpoint-Ariston oven spark electrode. Route the lead away from hot surfaces.
  • Ignition module: If multiple burners fail to spark and F11 appears, the ignition module may be faulty and require replacement.
