Possible Causes

Blocked burner ports, Incorrectly seated burner cap, Air in gas line after installation, Weak thermocouple not holding valve open

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off gas if you smell unburned gas. Ventilate the area and avoid flames or sparks.

  • Seat burner parts: Remove the burner cap and head, clean them, and ensure they are correctly positioned on the base. Misalignment can prevent proper ignition.
  • Clean ports: Use a soft brush or wooden toothpick to clear clogged gas ports. Do not use metal objects that can enlarge the holes.
  • Bleed air: After a new installation or gas interruption, hold the knob in the ignition position for several seconds to allow gas to reach the burner, then ignite.
  • Hold knob longer: For burners with thermocouples, keep the knob pressed for 5–10 seconds after ignition to allow the sensor to heat. If the flame still goes out, the thermocouple may be weak and should be replaced.
