Possible Causes
Spilled grease on oven floor or elements, Food debris on grill element, New oven protective oils burning off, Incorrect cookware or high fat content at high temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If smoke is heavy, turn off the oven and open windows. Keep the door closed if there is an active fire inside.
- Initial burn-in: For a new Hotpoint-Ariston oven, run an empty cycle at 200–220°C for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues, following the user manual.
- Clean interior: Once cool, remove racks and clean the cavity, especially around elements and the oven floor, with an appropriate oven cleaner.
- Use drip trays: When cooking fatty foods, place a tray under the food to catch drips and reduce smoke.
- Inspect elements: Ensure no large food residues are stuck to the elements. Gently remove any deposits.
