Possible Causes
Open-circuit radiant element, Failed temperature limiter (safety thermostat) on the element, Loose wiring to the zone, Faulty control switch or power board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power and allow the cooktop to cool completely.
- Access element: Remove the cooktop from the counter and take off the bottom cover to expose the radiant elements.
- Visual inspection: Look for broken coils or burn marks on the affected element.
- Continuity test: Disconnect the element and measure resistance across its terminals. Infinite resistance indicates a failed element.
- Limiter check: Some elements have an integrated limiter. If the limiter is open, the element will not heat. Replace the complete Hotpoint-Ariston element/limiter assembly.
- Control check: If the element is good, test the control switch or power board output to that zone and replace if faulty.
