Possible Causes

Shorted touchpad membrane, failed electronic oven control (EOC) board, stuck keypad button, liquid intrusion into control panel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

Steps to check:

  • Power reset: Turn the range breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then back ON. If F1 returns immediately, continue below.
  • Inspect keypad: Check the glass/control panel for cracks, warping, or signs of liquid spills. Press each button to feel for one that is stuck or does not click.
  • Ribbon cable check: Remove the back panel behind the control. Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the EOC. Disconnect and inspect for corrosion or burnt spots. Reseat firmly.
  • Isolate keypad vs board: With power OFF, disconnect the keypad ribbon from the EOC. Restore power briefly:
    • If F1 appears with keypad disconnected, the EOC board is likely bad.
    • If F1 does not appear, the keypad/touch panel is likely bad.
  • Replacement: Order the correct Hotpoint control panel or EOC using the full model number from the frame behind the door. Transfer wires one at a time to the new board, matching positions.

When to stop: If you smell burning, see arcing, or are unsure about wiring, stop and contact a qualified appliance technician.
