Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker immediately if the oven overheats. Allow to cool completely before working.
Steps to check:
- Sensor test: Remove and test the oven temperature sensor for correct resistance (~1050–1100 Ω at room temperature). Replace if out of range.
- Wiring inspection: Check the sensor harness for shorts to chassis or melted insulation, especially near the oven cavity.
- Control relay: If sensor and wiring are good, the bake relay on the EOC may be stuck closed, continuously powering the element. Replace the EOC.
- High-limit device: Some models have a thermal cutoff or high-limit thermostat on the rear. Test for continuity; if open, replace and investigate cause of overheating.
Warning: Do not continue using the oven until the cause of runaway heating is corrected; fire risk is significant.
