Possible Causes

Failed door lock motor assembly, bent door latch, broken lock switch, wiring issue between lock and EOC

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Allow the oven to cool fully if recently used or after a self-clean cycle.

Steps to check:

  • Manual door release: On many Hotpoint ranges, you can remove the rear panel and manually move the lock arm on the door lock motor to unlock the door.
  • Inspect latch: Check the door latch on the front of the oven for bending or misalignment. The latch must fully engage the lock mechanism.
  • Door lock motor: With the rear panel removed, locate the door lock motor assembly. Inspect for broken plastic parts or disconnected rods.
  • Switch testing: The lock assembly usually has one or more micro-switches. With power OFF, test continuity of these switches while manually moving the lock arm. Replace the lock assembly if switches do not change state.
  • Wiring and control: Inspect wiring from the lock motor to the EOC. If the lock assembly and wiring are good but F9 persists, replace the EOC.

Note: After replacing the lock assembly, run a short self-clean cycle to verify proper locking and unlocking.
