Possible Causes
Shorted touch keypad on control panel, Failed electronic oven control board, Moisture or contamination on keypad ribbon connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the circuit breaker before removing any panels. High voltage is present even when the oven is off.
- Power reset: Turn the range breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then back ON. If F1 returns immediately, the fault is likely permanent.
- Inspect control panel: Remove the back panel behind the control console (usually a few Phillips screws). Check the flat ribbon cable from the touch keypad to the electronic oven control (EOC) for corrosion, burnt spots, or moisture.
- Clean and reseat: Gently unplug the ribbon connector, clean contacts with electronics contact cleaner, let dry fully, and reconnect firmly.
- Check for liquid spills: Look for signs of liquid intrusion from the front glass touch panel (common after boiling over). If the keypad membrane is swollen or delaminated, it must be replaced.
- Replace faulty part: If F1 persists, replace the control panel/touch keypad assembly or the electronic oven control board as a matched set, following the Ikea/Whirlpool service manual for your model. Label and transfer each wire one at a time to the new board.
