Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), Stuck bake or broil relay on control board, Poor airflow around range causing overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before working inside.
- Check for obvious overheating: Remove racks and inspect the oven cavity for melted liners, foil on the bottom, or blocked vents. Remove any foil that covers vents or the oven floor.
- Test oven temperature sensor: Access the sensor probe inside the oven (usually a thin metal rod at the back wall). Remove the two mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector. With power OFF, disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter: at room temperature (~20–25°C), it should read about 1050–1100 Ω. Replace if open, shorted, or far out of range.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the control board for burnt or pinched wires, especially where it passes through the rear panel.
- Control board check: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the bake/broil relay on the electronic oven control may be stuck. Replace the control board following model-specific instructions.
