Possible Causes
Shorted membrane keypad, Debris or moisture under touch panel, Damaged keypad ribbon
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing the control panel.
- Clean keypad surface: If the keypad is mechanical (push buttons), clean around the buttons with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not allow liquid to run behind the panel.
- Inspect behind panel: Remove the control panel cover and check for moisture, grease, or food residue on the keypad and ribbon cable. Dry thoroughly and clean with electronics-safe cleaner.
- Test keypad: With power restored briefly, see if specific keys are unresponsive or always “on.” If so, the keypad membrane is defective.
- Replace keypad assembly: Order the correct Ikea/Whirlpool keypad or complete control panel assembly and install per service instructions. Transfer any brackets or bezels from the old panel.
