Possible Causes

Open or shorted oven temperature probe (NTC sensor), Damaged sensor wiring harness to main control board, Corroded or loose sensor connector at rear of oven cavity, Failed electronic oven control (EOC) sensor input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the range from power at the breaker before removing any panels. Surfaces and wiring may be hot.

  • Power reset: Turn the breaker off for 5 minutes, then back on. If E1 clears temporarily but returns when heating, continue below.
  • Check oven sensor resistance: Remove the rear panel of the range. Locate the oven temperature sensor (usually a thin metal probe entering the oven cavity with two wires leading to a plug). Disconnect the sensor plug and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature it should typically read around 1000–1100 Ω (check Ilve service data if available). If reading is open (OL) or very low (short), replace the sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor harness from the probe to the main control board. Look for pinched, burned, or broken wires. Repair or replace damaged wiring and ensure connectors are fully seated.
  • Check at control board: With power still off, unplug and re-seat the sensor connector at the EOC. If the sensor tests good at the plug but E1 persists, the control board sensor circuit is likely faulty.
  • Replace faulty part: If sensor resistance is out of spec, replace the oven temperature sensor. If sensor and wiring are good but E1 remains, the main control board (EOC) will need replacement, which is best done by a qualified technician.
