Possible Causes

Partially shorted oven temperature sensor, Poor electrical connection at sensor plug, Faulty main control board temperature calibration circuit, Incorrect sensor type installed from previous repair

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before testing or replacing components.

  • Visual inspection: Remove the rear panel and inspect the oven sensor and its wiring. Ensure the probe is firmly mounted inside the cavity and not bent or touching the oven wall.
  • Measure sensor resistance at different temps: At room temperature, measure resistance (should be ~1000–1100 Ω). Gently warm the sensor tip with a hair dryer and confirm resistance rises smoothly. Erratic or incorrect readings indicate a failing sensor.
  • Check connectors: Unplug and re-plug the sensor connector at both ends (sensor and control board). Look for corrosion or heat damage on pins.
  • Confirm correct part: If the sensor was replaced recently, verify the part number matches Ilve specifications for your model. An incorrect NTC curve can trigger E2.
  • Replace components: If the sensor tests bad, replace it. If the sensor is correct and tests good but E2 persists, the main control board may require replacement and re-calibration by a technician.
