Possible Causes

High-limit safety thermostat open, Overheated control area due to blocked ventilation, Failed cooling fan for control compartment, Loose wiring to safety thermostat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power and allow the appliance to cool completely before working on it.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the range has proper clearance around sides and back, and that vents above the oven door and behind the control panel are not blocked.
  • Access safety thermostat: Remove the rear panel or top panel (depending on model) to locate the high-limit thermostat (usually a small round device with two terminals mounted near the oven cavity or control area).
  • Test continuity: With power off, disconnect one wire and test across the thermostat with a multimeter. It should show continuity. If open, it has tripped or failed.
  • Manual reset (if applicable): Some Ilve thermostats have a small red reset button. Press firmly to reset. If it clicks and continuity returns, reassemble and test. If it trips again, investigate cooling fan and airflow.
  • Check cooling fan: Inspect the control compartment cooling fan for free rotation and wiring damage. If the fan does not run when the oven heats, test for voltage and replace if faulty.
  • Replace thermostat: If the high-limit thermostat will not reset or remains open, replace it with the correct Ilve part.
