Possible Causes
Failed cooling fan motor under cooktop, Obstructed air intake or exhaust vents, Fan wiring harness disconnected, Faulty fan driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power at the breaker before accessing the underside of the cooktop.
- Ventilation check: Ensure cabinets and panels around the cooktop allow airflow. Remove any items blocking vents under or behind the unit.
- Access fan: Remove the cooktop from the counter if necessary and take off the bottom cover to expose the cooling fan(s).
- Inspect fan: Check that the fan blades spin freely by hand and are not obstructed by wiring or debris. Clean dust buildup.
- Electrical test: With power restored briefly and extreme caution, start a zone and observe whether the fan runs. If it does not, turn power off again and test the fan motor for continuity. Replace the fan if open or seized.
- Check wiring: Verify the fan connector is firmly seated on the control board and that wires are intact.
- Control board: If the fan is good and wiring is intact but E8 persists, the fan driver circuit on the control board may be faulty and require board replacement.
