Possible Causes
Failed oven igniter (glow bar or spark), Clogged oven burner, Faulty oven thermostat or temperature sensor, Defective gas safety valve for bake circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off gas and power before removing oven components. Beware of sharp edges.
- Observe igniter: Set the oven to bake and watch through the bottom panel. If the igniter does not glow or spark within 30–60 seconds, it may be faulty.
- Check for gas smell: If you smell gas but no ignition, turn off the oven immediately and ventilate. Do not attempt further operation until inspected.
- Test igniter: Remove the oven floor panel to access the igniter. For glow-bar types, measure current draw (should typically be 3–3.5 A; refer to Ilve specs). Low current indicates a weak igniter that must be replaced.
- Clean burner: Remove and clean the oven burner tube, ensuring all ports and the crossover channel are clear.
- Gas valve: If a strong igniter glow is present but no gas flow, the oven safety valve may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
