Possible Causes
Faulty spark generator (ignition module), Cracked or dirty ignition electrodes, Moisture around burner caps, Loose ignition wiring to burner
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off gas supply at the shutoff valve and disconnect power (if electric ignition). Avoid creating sparks while gas may be present.
Steps:
- 1. Clean burners: Remove burner caps and heads. Clean ports with a soft brush and ensure they are dry. Blocked ports can prevent gas from reaching the spark.
- 2. Check electrodes: Inspect the ignition electrodes near each burner for cracks, heavy grease, or carbon. Clean gently with a non-abrasive pad. Replace if cracked or loose.
- 3. Dry moisture: If the hob was recently cleaned, moisture may short the spark. Allow the area to dry completely or use a hairdryer on a low, cool setting at a distance.
- 4. Test spark generator: With power restored and gas still off, turn a knob to ignite and observe if all electrodes spark. If none spark, the spark generator may be faulty and should be replaced.
- 5. Wiring check: With power off again, inspect ignition wires from the module to each electrode for burns or disconnections. Reconnect or replace as needed.
