Possible Causes
Burned-out radiant coil element, Failed infinite burner switch, Loose or burned terminal block connection, Broken wiring to element
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing any panels or the cooktop glass.
- Swap elements (if plug-in type): On some coil-top Insignia ranges, swap the non-heating element with a known-good one of the same size. If the problem follows the element, replace the element. If it stays at the same location, suspect the switch or wiring.
- Inspect radiant element: For smooth-top models, remove the cooktop glass to access the radiant element. Look for breaks or burn spots in the coil. Replace the element if damaged.
- Check infinite switch: Access the control panel and test the infinite switch for continuity between terminals as you turn the knob. Replace the switch if it does not close properly.
- Inspect wiring and terminal block: Check the rear terminal block for burned connections and repair as needed.
