Possible Causes
Weak bake igniter, Open igniter element, Loose igniter wiring, Failed gas safety valve (rare compared to igniter)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off gas supply and disconnect power before servicing. Gas leaks and ignition components can be hazardous.
- Observe igniter: With power on and gas on, start a bake cycle and look through the oven bottom panel. If the igniter does not glow at all, or glows but the burner never lights after 60–90 seconds, the igniter is likely weak or open.
- Access igniter: Turn power and gas off. Remove the oven bottom panel and flame spreader to expose the burner and igniter.
- Inspect and test: Check for cracks or breaks in the igniter. Use a meter to test continuity; an open igniter must be replaced.
- Replace igniter: Disconnect the igniter wiring (often via a quick connector under the oven), remove mounting screws, and install a new JennAir-compatible bake igniter. Avoid touching the new igniter element with bare fingers.
- Reassemble and test: Restore gas and power, then test bake. If the igniter glows strongly but the burner still does not light, the gas valve may be faulty and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
