Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD), Failed electronic oven control (EOC) board, Shorted sensor wiring harness, Relay on control board welded closed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before any disassembly. Surfaces and internal parts may be extremely hot.
- Power reset: Turn the range off at the breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power. If F10 returns quickly, proceed with checks.
- Check oven temperature sensor:
- Locate the sensor probe inside the oven (usually a thin metal rod at the back wall, upper area).
- Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector.
- Unplug the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. A typical Kenmore sensor should read about 1050–1100 Ω at 70°F (21°C).
- If reading is far off (open, shorted, or very different from spec), replace the oven temperature sensor (RTD).
- Inspect sensor wiring:
- Check the harness from the sensor to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connections.
- Reseat the connector at the control board.
- Control board check:
- If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the electronic oven control (EOC) is likely faulty.
- Remove the back panel behind the control, take a photo of wiring, then disconnect and replace the control board following the wiring diagram.
- Test operation: Restore power and run a 350°F bake test. Monitor for normal cycling and absence of F10.
